Lower Prices for 2012 & 2013 ATB Quarters Silver Proof Sets

Today, May 22, 2013, the United States Mint reduced prices on four silver-related products, including the 2012 & 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Silver Proof Sets.

Prices for both Quarters Silver Proof Sets went down by $5 from $41.95 to the current $36.95.

A reason for the re-pricing was not provided by the U.S. Mint, though silver has moved down steadily and the melt values of the coins within the set have dropped as a result. The Mint tends to keep a healthy premium in place for its collectible products, but it also wants to be competitive and attract buyers. Moving product pricing in parallel with significant changes in precious metals is one way to stay in the game.

Annually issued ATB Quarters Silver Proof Sets each contain five 90% silver quarters for a total silver content of 0.904 troy ounces. They are all produced at the San Francisco Mint and carry the "S" mint mark.

Last year’s set was released on Jan. 10, 2012. It features the America the Beautiful Quarters depicting:

  • El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico,
  • Chaco Culture National Historical Park in New Mexico,
  • Acadia National Park in Maine,
  • Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii and
  • Denali National Park in Alaska

This year’s set was issued on Jan. 8, 2013. Found in it are the America the Beautiful Quarters honoring:

  • White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire,
  • Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial of Ohio,
  • Great Basin National Park of Nevada,
  • Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine of Maryland and
  • Mount Rushmore National Memorial of South Dakota

For those curious as to how many of the ATB sets have sold, the US Mint reported that as of Monday, May 20, total sales for last year’s set is 150,299 and total sales for this year’s set is 98,093.

Also today, the United States Mint reduced prices on its 2013 Silver Proof Set and its 2013 Congratulations Set.

Released on May 2, 2013, the 2013 Silver Proof Set went down by $7 to $60.95 from $67.95. This set has 14 proof coins in total with 7 of them composed of 90% silver. The silver coins include the same 2013-dated America the Beautiful Quarters described above, as well as a silver Kennedy half-dollar and a silver Roosevelt dime. Together, these coins have a silver content of 1.34 troy ounces. The other 7 coins are of standard clad. They include the Lincoln cent, Jefferson nickel, four Presidential dollars and this year’s Native American dollar. These sets are a popular annual product from the Mint with total sales now at 214,477.

The 2013 Congratulations Set is a new product released by the US Mint. As its name implies, it is for special occasions and includes a one-ounce proof American Eagle silver coin. The set went on sale April 30th for $64.95. It can now be purchased for $59.95.

Each of these silver sets is available directly from the US Mint website at www.usmint.gov/catalog or by calling 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468).

  1. Dear coiners people I am interested to know when will we see these 3 released coins of 2013 N.H, OH-NEV? Also was wondering have you heard if there is a coin (U.S.) map for the parks quarters? Wow! When I was growing up all we had was the centennials 76″, so these are interesting. Derrick.

  2. James, a good way is to get the 2013 America the Beautiful Quarters Circulating Coin Set for $5.95. However, the US Mint does not have it scheduled for release until Nov. 21, 2013. It’ll have 10 quarters with 5 from the Philadelphia Mint and 5 from the Denver Mint with each bearing a respective P or D mint mark. The US Mint has many quarters products at http://www.usmint.gov/catalog with varying collectible finishes and quantities.
