The newest America the Beautiful product from the United States Mint features three Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarters.
The quarter, released into circulation late last month, commemorates the national park in Colorado. Inside the collectible set is:
- one uncirculated quarter from the US Mint plant in Philadelphia
- one uncirculated quarter from the US Mint plant in Denver
- one proof quarter from the US Mint plant in San Francisco
Uncirculated and proof finishes mean theses U.S. quarters have sharper details than those found in circulation. Also, the proof coin will have a cameo appearance that includes frosted designs and mirror-like backgrounds.
All three Great Sand Dunes America the Beautiful Quarters are attached to a display card that’s designed to show both sides of the coins. The card has a photographic image of the national park on the front while the back offers information about the park, specifications of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program and a Certificate of Authenticity.
Great Sand Dunes quarters are the fourth release from the America the Beautiful Quarters series this year and the twenty-fourth in the program overall. Shown on the reverse, tails side, is a father and son playing in the sand next to the creek bed. Mountains and sand dunes appear in the background.
This year is one of the more unique ones for the program as all of the sites feature quarters depicting national parks. Most years there is a mixing with some of them depicting sites like national forests, national memorials or national military parks. The final issued 2014 America the Beautiful Quarter honors Everglades National Park in Florida. Already issued are those depicting:
- Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee
- Shenandoah National Park in Virginia
- Arches National Park in Utah
