Available beginning on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013 at 12:00 Noon ET is the 2013 Fort McHenry America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Set, the fourth of five in the series for 2013 and the nineteenth overall.

Quarters within the three-coin sets feature Joseph Menna’s design depicting fireworks above Fort McHenry. The scene is emblematic of how the national monument in Maryland appears during the annual Defenders Day celebration.

Mounted to a display card are three Fort McHenry quarters that are struck by the United States Mint specifically for coin collectors. These include:

  • one uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint
  • one uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint
  • one proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint

Each of the America the Beautiful Quarters has a mint mark of either P, D or S, with those letters designating a coin’s production at plants located in the respective cities of Philadelphia, Denver or San Francisco.

The three coins are mounted side-by-side in an attractive card that has a front featuring a photo of Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine in Maryland and a back that offers information about the national monument, specifications for the quarters and a U.S. Mint Certificate of Authenticity.

Price and Ordering Sets

Unlike most United States Mint products that have limited sales periods, typically around a year, all but one of the past America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets remain available. Those released in 2010-2011 are $14.95 each. These sets are noted by display cards that are US Mint-branded black and white. Beginning in 2012, sets went down to $9.95 and the display cards instead offer a photo front of the national park or national site commemorated.

Currently, and through to September 30, 2013, the Mint is running a promotion that offers free standard shipping, which is normally $4.95. It has also cut its expedited shipping costs by $4.95 to $12.95. However, these offers are only available and applied when ordering products online at www.usmint.gov. Those who choose to call in their order at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468) will have to pay the normal shipping prices.

As a reminder, also available are circulating-quality versions of Fort McHenry quarters. Those were released by the U.S. Mint in rolls, sets and bags on August 26, 2013.

Past Three and Final 2013 Three-Coin Sets

Debuting earlier this year were three-coin sets with America the Beautiful Quarters commemorating White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire, Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial in Ohio, and Great Basin National Park in Nevada.

Scheduled to launch on November 19, 2013 is the three-coin set honoring Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota.
