Available soon from the United States Mint will be circulation quality 2014 Shenandoah National Park Quarters. Beginning on Monday, March 31, 2014, rolls and bags of the coins honoring the national park in Virginia will be available for ordering.
The release from the United States Mint of the collector products coincides with the release of the Shenandoah Quarter into circulation. On the same day, the Federal Reserve Banks will start using the quarter dollar (in addition to remaining inventories of previous quarters) to fulfill orders from local financial institutions around the country.
It will, however, take some time for the quarters to make their way into your change via local banks. As such, those looking to obtain Shenandoah National Park Quarters for their collections may want to consider ordering them directly from the U.S. Mint. In addition, those purchasing from the Mint will be able to specify coins from Philadelphia, Denver or San Francisco whereas it would be difficult, if not impossible, to obtain the coins from all three minting locations in pocket-change.
Designs on 2014 Shenandoah Quarters
Shown on the reverse of the Shenandoah National Park Quarter is a design created and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Phebe Hemphill. In the design, Hemphill shows a day hiker taking in the view from Little Stony Man summit. Inscriptions are SHENANDOAH, VIRGINIA, 2014, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.
The obverse of all America the Beautiful Quarters® contain the same obverse portrait of George Washington. The image of the first President of the United States was originally designed by John Flanagan and has been featured on circulating quarter dollars since 1932. Inscriptions surrounding the effigy include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST and QUARTER DOLLAR.
US Mint Circulating-Quality Products with America the Beautiful Quarters
The vast majority of all coins struck by the United States Mint are destined for use in commerce, as that is the bureau’s primary mission. However, a small portion of circulation quality coins are reserved for use in special collector grade releases such as those soon to be issued containing the Shenandoah Quarters.
This includes some of the Shenandoah National Park Quarters struck at the U.S. Mint’s facilities in Philadelphia and Denver, which are responsible for striking all the circulating coinage of the nation. The new releases also offer buyers the opportunity to purchase circulation-grade Shenandoah Quarters struck at the US Mint’s facility in San Francisco. These latter examples are only struck for release in the rolls and bags available to order directly from the U.S. Mint and will not be issued through official channels into circulation.
2014-S Shenandoah Quarters 40-Coin Rolls
Those interested in just the San Francisco Shenandoah Quarters will want to check out the single roll option available for $18.95. Included inside are forty circulation quality quarters struck in San Francisco.
The option is relatively new and only joined the Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarter line-up in 2012.
2014 P&D Shenandoah Quarters Two-Roll Sets
Traditionalists will likely look to the two-roll sets available for ordering. These sets contain one roll of forty quarters from the Philadelphia Mint and one roll from the Denver Mint.
Pricing of the two-roll sets is $32.95.
2014 P, D & S Shenandoah Quarters Three-Roll Sets
An option covering all the bases would be the three-roll set also available from the U.S. Mint. This includes one roll from Philadelphia, one roll from Denver and one roll from San Francisco.
Each contains forty circulating grade quarters from the respective facility. Pricing of the three-roll set is $46.95.
2014 Shenandoah Quarters 100-Coin Bags
For $34.95, buyers may purchase 100 Shenandoah Quarters from their choice of Philadelphia, Denver or San Francisco. The quarters ship in a bag imprinted with U.S. MINT, QUARTERS and $25.00. A label attached to the bag indicates the specific contents of Shenandoah National Park Quarters and their mint of origin.
Like the previous options, these coins are circulation quality.
