Beginning at Noon (Eastern), the U.S. Mint will release single rolls, two-roll sets and bags of the fourth 2014-dated America the Beautiful Quarter which features a reverse design depicting the Great Sand Dunes National Park of Colorado. These quarters will also begin to enter circulation through the Federal Reserve Bank system. An official release ceremony will follow the next week.

For several reasons, anyone interested in Great Sand Dunes Quarters will likely want to get them from the United States Mint. First, it takes time for them to get into circulation as local banks are unable to order quarters by design. Second, when they finally do reach circulation, they tend to be from the nearest minting facility that made them (from Philadelphia or Denver). Third, San Francisco struck quarters will not be released into circulation and are only available from the U.S. Mint.

Designs on 2014 Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarters

Offered on reverses of 2014 Great Sand Dunes Quarters is a design emblematic of the national park as designed and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Don Everhart. It shows a father and son playing in the sand next to a creek bed. Inscriptions include GREAT SAND DUNES, COLORADO, 2014, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

Obverses of all America the Beautiful Quarters have the same portrait of George Washington. The image, by John Flanagan, has appeared on quarter-dollars since 1932 but was enhanced for use on the new series which began in 2010. Inscriptions surrounding the effigy include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
